BiomimicryNYC celebrated Janine Benyus’ receipt of the Cooper Hewitt Design Mind Award as well as the official launch of our network with over 200 fellow designers, architects, engineers, students and teachers.
Addressing the crowd of 210 biomimicry enthusiasts on a blistery evening in October in New York City, Janine Benyus described the moment she first met First Lady Michelle Obama this past April, 2012. Janine, along with co-founder of Biomimicry 3.8, Dayna Baumeister were honored by the First Lady at a luncheon in Washington DC, where Benyus was awarded the Design Mind Award from the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.
“This evening truly feels like a turning point in the biomimicry revolution.”
On Thursday, October 18th, BiomimicryNYC held our joint Cocktail Reception at the Grohe Live! Center with Biomimicry 3.8 to celebrate our network’s official launch and Janine Benyus’ receipt of the Cooper-Hewitt/White House Design Mind Award. October was a pivotal time for Biomimicry on a local and global level.
To continue this momentum, and engage new members, BiomimicryNYC will be adding guest lectures and talks to our monthly BrainSwarm meetings. Please see below for details.
We hope you can join us in pursuit of a city inspired by nature, to scale the application of biomimetic design and engage professionals in a new trade for people, for planet and for prosperity.
